Hi Momma,

Re: Got Me Again!
I haven't even seen "Message in a Bottle" and I'll tell ya what -- I won't either. You know, now it's on premium, I find myself drawn to "The Postman," which (as you know) flopped at the box office. But I found this to be a really nice movie. It wasn't heavy-handed, it was beautifully filmed. Guess where the flaw was? You got it. In the same place "Message in a Bottle" probably has its flaw..

Whoever told Kevin Costner he could act? The boyish smile only goes so far when you're no longer a boy; Robert Redford knows how to act, which is why his boyish smile still works. Costner is not aging as gracefully as other leading men have so he can't really rely on his looks to see him through. "Dances With Wolves" was a type-cast character, which is why it worked for him. But how many real movie roles are there where the character talks without moving his mouth and in fact, barely moves any body part at all? Apparently, not many. Both these movies probably would have done well with almost any other leading man. Postman would have done better with an unknown actor.

Costner directs very nice films. He has a good eye as a director and I like the stories he tells. But he cannot act his way out of a paper bag (are you sure you aren't hiding him in there with you?). He should stick with directing and get out from in front of the camera.

And there you have it, another two cents, FWIW, from
Julianne Weight of AlphaBest

I too saw The Postman on cable and as a TV movie I enjoyed it for all it's silly limitations. It was just another "Waterworld" sans water and the catamaran this time out was a horse. I agree, the scenery was beautifully shot. I've enjoyed Kevin in three films besides "Dances with Wolves"... "Bull Durham", "Body Guard", & "Tin Cup", but with inconsistent Kevin, one can't ever bet on any of his films being a sure shot winner. Ha ... as to Kevin being here with me in the bag, there's just not any room left over since Mel Gibson, Antonio Banderas, Kurt Russell, Nick Nolte, Kevin Kline, Tom Berringer, et al moved in! Now there's a bagfull o' hunks to make any momma happy! :-)

Hi Momma,
Re:
Mask of Zorro:
I totally agree. This was the sexiest movie I've seen in YEARS and nobody got naked or jumped into bed. Hollywood could learn something from this.

Oh yeah... two Anthonys for the price of one 'n it was so much fun!

Armaggeddon:
Well.. ok, so suspend credibility absolutely and you can get a lot of entertainment out of this movie. Especially if you have a bunch of pre-teen boys with you. Bruce Willis proves he can age gracefully and there's a lot of good actors here.

Thank gawd I'm not an adolescant boy! I love a good action film but this one remains on my all time worst list.

Dante's Peak:
I can't believe you gave this three bags! What a piece of crap movie this was. I'm glad I saw it on satellite and didn't even pay extra to rent the video... or worse, buy it... or worse, pay to see the movie. Even Linda Hamilton and Pierce Brosnan couldn't breathe sufficient life into this stinker.

Well you caught a coding error there for sure... meant to give this lava laden film two bags only because it was sooooo much better than Volcano! Thanks for pointing out my mistake.

In & Out:
Any movie with Kevin Kline is worth seeing. My favorites are "Dave" and "A Fish Called Wanda." I'd love to see him perform on stage -- he's so awesome on film, he's gotta be perfect on stage. One of the few true actors (not type cast characters) left.

Yup I agree totally. Kevin is one of my absolute favorite actors! I was lucky enough to see him live on stage in Pirates of Penzance. Yummy!

The Saint:
I ate up the books as a teenager and I'd like to eat up Val Kilmer. Another great actor, much underrated. Ever see him in "The Doors?" You'd think Jim Morrison had been resurrected!

Oh yeah... Val is an incredible talent that I've admired for a long time now. His portrayal of Doc Holiday in Tombstone still is one of my favorites!

Desperado:
You're welcome to come to my house and watch this any time. I love the bar scene with the guitar and singing. Haven't been able to sit through the credits long enough to figure out whether or not Banderas actually did this himself. I doubt sincerely the guitar playing (you'll notice the closeups of the playing are just hands on a guitar), but I wonder if he did the singing. If so, I'm going to lobby to get one of my kids into one of his movies!

You're on girl. Another all time favorite of mine! Whenever I get the blahs, all I have to do is pop in this tape for an attitude adjustment. Yes, Antonio did the singing! Oh Baby!

Men In Black:
Only two bags?! We thoroughly enjoy this movie. It's a silly story, but that's part of it's charm. Love Will Smith and Tommy Lee. Another one of the hits with preteen boys. I only require that a movie be entertaining and easy on the eyes -- this qualifies.

Just didn't live up to all the hype for me. I thought Mars Attack was much funnier on the whole.

Love your site and my children are wondering what, exactly, an Internet bag lady eats.

Dear Momma,

A friend sent me your site..and three years later I emerged more knowledgeable that I thought I could become. Happening upon your movie reviews,I read with great acceptance your comments on that over-rated piece of "Foster Fluff" that was "Contact". Bravo "Mama babe" for saying what I was thinking! The best part of this film was that I had it on tape and controlled my own destiny rather than trying to outlast my $8.00 at the theatre.

The "Hap"-E one

p.s. Here's The Happy Trout in appreciation...

Happy Trout For Momma!

What's not to love when someone totally agrees with me 'n still enjoys what I dole out on this site after three years. First time I ever received a fish in the mail as a gift. Gotta love the fish!
